DUE DILIGENCE ASSESSMENT
INGA, ITAGUAI FACILITIES, RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL
The Project consisted of a Due Diligence Assessment of an Environmental Remediation Project for an old Zn and Cd Leaching Plant. The purpose of the Project was to provide background information on the technical-economic feasibility of the future actions that were planned at the site acquired by Usiminas-Sumitomo.
The Project included a technical-economic remediation feasibility assessment of more than one million m3 of tailings and 400,000 m3 of liquid wastes accumulated over more than 60 years in a nearby protected mangrove. The Project helped the purchasing consortium to define the future environmental remediation actions at the site.
RISK ASSESSMENT
TIER II RISK ASSESSMENT
TALCAHUANO CHLORATE PLANT
The Project consisted of an assessment of the potential environmental risks associated with the waste disposals generated by a Low Density Polyethylene Plant where vinyl chloride, polyvinyl chloride and 1,2 Dichloroethane (EDC) had been produced in the past.
The Project included the installation of six monitoring wells and subsequent sampling and analysis. The Project helped characterize the flow direction of groundwater, the concentration of dissolved constituents, and potential risks associated with exposure to these constituents, so as to develop suitable management measures to control eventual environmental risks.
